Sedation Dentistry at McEntire Dental
Many patients arrive at our office feeling overwhelmed by dental care they’ve delayed for months or even years. Sedation dentistry allows Dr. McEntire to provide high-quality treatment in a calm, controlled environment—often completing extensive dental work in fewer appointments than traditional dentistry.
Sedation is ideal for patients who experience dental fear, sensitivity, or difficulty sitting through longer procedures. Whether your needs are simple or complex, our team focuses on helping you remain comfortable while restoring your oral health.
Personalized Sedation Options
Sedation is never one-size-fits-all. Dr. McEntire carefully evaluates your medical history, comfort level, and treatment needs to recommend the most appropriate option. Available methods may include oral conscious sedation, nitrous oxide, or IV sedation. Each option is administered with strict safety protocols and continuous monitoring.
Sedation allows patients to remain deeply relaxed while Dr. McEntire works efficiently and precisely—reducing stress for both patient and provider.
What to Expect During Sedation
Depending on the type of sedation used, medication may be taken before or during your appointment. Many patients experience little awareness of the procedure and may not remember it afterward. For oral and IV sedation, a trusted adult will need to drive you to and from your visit.
During treatment, you’ll rest comfortably with warm blankets while your vital signs are closely monitored. Once your procedure is complete, our team will review post-treatment instructions and help you transition safely into recovery.
Fewer Appointments, Less Anxiety
Sedation dentistry often allows multiple procedures to be completed in one or two visits. This means less time in the dental chair and fewer disruptions to your schedule—making it easier to move forward with the care you need.
Types of Sedation Offered
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation involves taking prescribed medication prior to your appointment. You will remain awake but deeply relaxed, with reduced awareness of time and sensation. Many patients report little to no memory of their procedure. This option is safe, cost-effective, and ideal for patients with mild to moderate anxiety. A local anesthetic is also used to ensure comfort, and a driver is required for your visit.
IV Sedation
IV sedation is recommended for patients with moderate to severe dental anxiety or for longer procedures. Medication is administered directly into the bloodstream, allowing for rapid and adjustable relaxation. You remain conscious but extremely calm, and vital signs are continuously monitored throughout treatment. This option often allows complex dental work to be completed in a single visit.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is inhaled during treatment and provides a light, calming effect. It helps reduce anxiety while allowing you to remain fully responsive. The effects wear off quickly, and most patients are able to drive themselves home and return to normal activities after their appointment.

Sedation is not always covered by insurance. Our team will review your benefits and discuss costs and financing options in advance.
Advanced Dental Technology
McEntire Dental uses modern technology to improve diagnostic accuracy, treatment efficiency, and patient education.
Panoramic X-ray (Panorex)
A panoramic X-ray provides a full view of the teeth, jaws, sinuses, and surrounding bone structures in a single image. This allows Dr. McEntire to identify issues that may not be visible with traditional X-rays, such as infections, structural abnormalities, or impacted teeth.
Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays while producing high-resolution images instantly. These images allow for early detection of decay, bone loss, and other concerns—leading to faster diagnosis and more precise treatment planning.
Intraoral Camera
The intraoral camera enables us to capture detailed images of your mouth, which can be viewed on a monitor in real-time. This helps patients better understand their dental health, allowing for clearer communication and documentation.
Rotary Endodontics
Rotary endodontics uses specialized electric instruments during root canal treatment, allowing the procedure to be completed more efficiently and comfortably. This technology improves precision and reduces treatment time.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Routine oral cancer screenings are an important part of preventive care. Using advanced diagnostic techniques, Dr. McEntire can identify early signs of abnormalities—especially important for patients who smoke or consume alcohol regularly.
